Hawthorn & Ash #30

Welcome to this week’s installment of many micro stories, ranging in length from 100 words to 500 words.

With each story we hope to deliver a little whimsy into the lives of our readers.

NIGHT AFTER NIGHT

I have the same nightmare most nights, even when I don’t feel like I slept at all. The floating bodies, their war-ravaged faces stare with terrifying focus at me through the glass. They’re dead, but I hear them in my mind. They want in.

My sleep-balance injection wore off months ago. I walk the silent corridors, dazed, alone.

The ship orbits the dead planet of Kqigg, round and round, crashing into space junk with growing frequency. How many cycles, before the ship is torn apart? It no longer matters.

I walk through the ship, never looking sideways out the windows.
